Our Mission

Rabbits are the third most popular pet in the U.K. and U.S. yet they are afforded little legislative protection. There is a vast disparity between the treatment of the top two pets being dogs and cats and the top third pets. We therefore need to address legislation to protect rabbits, much like the law that exists to protect cats and dogs. With this in mind, Hop to save rabbits was born: an international platform to bring the community together to enable legislative change to safeguard the rights and lives of rabbits.

How can we effect change?

Legislative change will mainly be undertaken via the use of petitions and campaigns raised by our team.

We are happy to partner with members of the public and local charities, who are kind enough to share their petitions and campaigns with us, regarding rabbit welfare.

We ask the public and animal charities for their support in endorsing and sharing any active petitions displayed on our web pages, concerning the welfare of rabbits.

Petitions and campaigns are posted on our pages on a country basis. This way you can ensure you are signing to improve rabbit welfare in your respective country.

Further other countries, may look to any petitions and campaigns raised as inspiration to create their own.

Aim

Hop to save rabbits’ primary motive is to protect the rights of both domestic and wild rabbits.

  1. Banning the consumption of rabbit meat for both humans and pets.
  2. Banning the hunting of wild rabbits.
  3. Require rabbit breeders to be licensed.

Banning the consumption of rabbit meat

  1. Animal welfare concerns: Some argue that rabbits are often raised in cramped and inhumane conditions in commercial farming operations. Banning the consumption of rabbit meat could help address these concerns and promote better animal welfare standards.
  2. Conservation efforts: Certain rabbit species are endangered or at risk due to habitat loss and hunting. Banning the consumption of rabbit meat could help protect these species and contribute to conservation efforts.
  3. Health considerations: There have been concerns about the safety of consuming rabbit meat due to the potential presence of diseases or parasites. Banning its consumption could help mitigate these health risks.
  4. Ethical considerations: Some individuals believe that all animals have a right to life and should not be raised and killed for human consumption. Banning the eating of rabbit meat aligns with their ethical stance on animal rights.
