On 27 September, campaigners gathered for a peaceful Pets at Home protest at Castle Marina, Nottingham. Protesters held signs saying “Stop Selling Animals” and “Adopt Don’t Shop” to call for the chain to end live animal sales.
The Pets at Home protest at Castle Marina highlighted a national problem. Despite a rescue crisis, with over 180,000 small animals given up each year, Pets at Home continues to sell rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, reptiles, and fish. Rival chains such as Jollyes have already stopped selling live animals and now work with rescue groups instead.
Campaigners argue that Pets at Home should modernise by following this example. Protests have also taken place in Southampton, Portsmouth, Manchester, London, and Ashford under the Rescue Not Retail banner. Each one sends the same message: pet shops should support adoption, not profit from breeding and sales.
We stand with Rescue Not Retail and all campaigners across the UK.
✊ Together we will keep raising our voices until every pet shop stops selling live animals.
📅 Future protests are being planned by Rescue Not Retail – Weymouth on the 12th October, and Nottingham. Join and stand up for rabbits and all small animals: help push for change.
