Protesters held signs saying <em>\u201cStop Selling Animals\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cAdopt Don\u2019t Shop\u201d<\/em> to call for the chain to end live animal sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Pets at Home protest at Castle Marina<\/strong> highlighted a national problem. Despite a rescue crisis, with over 180,000 small animals given up each year, Pets at Home continues to sell rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, reptiles, and fish. Rival chains such as Jollyes have already stopped selling live animals and now work with rescue groups instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Campaigners argue that Pets at Home should modernise by following this example. Protests have also taken place in Southampton, Portsmouth, Manchester, London, and Ashford under the <strong>Rescue Not Retail<\/strong> banner.
